Power to the people fund
Our Environmental Vision is “to make a positive contribution to our Island environment for today and for the benefit of future generations” and we want to support our Island community in a way that achieves our vision.
We support Locally based initiatives, charities or projects that benefit the environment and wider community. This includes events, initiatives, projects and groups with a cause and brand that resonates with the four pillars of Guernsey Electricity’s 5 year Environmental Sustainability Strategy:
- Affordable and clean energy
- Climate Action
- Healthy ecosystems
- Education, awareness and skills
Organisations that can apply for funding include, but are not limited to, charities, community groups, unincorporated associations, co-operatives, schools, social enterprises and amateur sports clubs
Individuals or organisations that apply must either be based or managed locally in the Bailiwick of Guernsey.

National Trust of GuernseyThe National Trust has received £2,890 for the acquisition of innovative self-powered scythe to increase accessibility to its land for Islanders. The revolutionary kit will allow scrub to be cleared by its volunteers in a way that is sensitive and encouraging of biodiversity. As the third largest landowner in Guernsey, the National Trust hope that the scythe will improve accessibility for more islanders. -
Biological Records Centre£1,700 has been donated to the Biological Records Centre for its project to record and enhance public awareness of Eelgrass, which is an important habitat forming species found in the seas around the Island. -
Guernsey Conservation herdThe Conservation Herd has received £500 for the purchase of food for the cattle. The herd graze in open areas across the Island and play an important role in promoting the growth of native species and protects natural habitats and biodiversity. -
The Clean Earth Trustthe Clean Earth Trust will use the £900 donation for the roll out of its kiosk based litter picking kits for beach goers to use, free of charge. The initiative will increase education and beach cleaning in a safe, accessible way whilst reducing the amount of littler that can find its way into the marine environment -
The Repair CafeWe donated £1,125 which will provide volunteers who work at its Repair Cafés with equipment to conduct electrical repairs safely. We also included monies to train the team to use the equipment and purchase new electrical materials. -
The Lihou Charitable Trust£1,866 has been donated to the Lihou Charitable Trust for the installation of a live data screen which will provide guests, schools and youth groups with an insight into how much electricity is being generated by the Island’s solar panels in Lihou House in real time. The Trust maintains the property, which welcomes many Islanders every year, including students from all the Island’s schools who complete overnight residentials and will use the screens to monitor their own energy usage. -
La Societe Guernesiase Bat SectionLa Société Guernesiaise’s Bat Section will utilise its £2,000 donation to purchase bat boxes to put up around the island and also bat detectors for use on its regular bat walks which are open to the public. -
Education officers- La Societe GuernesiaiseEducation officers at La Société have received £1,000 to go towards equipment as part of its schools’ workshops, which focuses on educating students on biodiversity and nature.
